![]() VINTAGE RACE PREPARATION & TEAM SUPPORT click for: www.tripleOservice.com homepage email: fred@tripleOservice.com telephone: 312-280-8820 Having been involved in many race efforts over the years, including racing Honda ATC's on ice, late model Super Sport Road racing, Trans-Amazon Rally, and Moto Cross (both vintage and modern), we offer a large resource bank of knowledge to draw from and aid you, the burgeoning racer. The truth is in a triangle: RELIABILITY ![]() LOOK GOOD Lose any one or more of these and you should stay on the porch. To explain: Reliability: A well-tuned motor, thought-out powerband joined to a solid chassis, and rider stamina. If you tire easily or your bike fights your motive (to finish, not win - that comes later) stay home. Looks Good: This means that the bike's fit and finish is above normal. This really means that it's well thought-out (no paper clip - rubber band - duct tape fixes). These rules will go a long way toward the 'reliability' aspect. Use good parts - not used junk. There are a lot of vintage speed parts available - some cheap, most not. Spend money on what's important - brakes, tires, suspension, and motor - not antique ideas. More often than not, most technology from the '60s has been proved incorrect. This also helps you get past something as simple as tech-inspection and maintenance. Without maintenance, your expensive single-purpose vehicle is a doorstop. Go Fast: The last. Horsepower is very easy to get. Controlling it is the job of the other 2 corners of the triangle. It's much like a vicious wild animal - in order to capture it you must research, prepare, stalk, corner and restrain. Sounds easy, doesn't it? It's not. 'Go Fast' means more than horsepower. The best advice offered goes as such: thoroughly prep a near stock motor with good brakes, tires, and shocks/forks, then go and ride the race tracks. Learn your machine! Don't be concerned that guys are passing you, since most of them have been racing that same bike for over 30 years. Be realistic - vintage racing is for showboating around on your old crock, competing against other old crocks. There is a premiere class reserved for Ex-factory race machines and the really fast guys. What allured you to AHRMA/Vintage Racing? It's billed as being fun and reasonably cheap (cheap means it still must be budgeted for). Finishing still costs money, wining costs more.
